Psychedelics will revolutionize the treatment of mental illness in the coming years. With the research data that is now available, it is indisputable that plant medicines represent a more efficient and effective way of improving the quality of people's lives who are suffering from addiction, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Modern science is catching up with wisdom from ancient cultures - cultures that practiced the ceremonial use of plant medicines for their transformative and therapeutic benefits.
Science has yet to fully understand the human body's innate healing capacity - which was also known to ancient people. For not only were plants used in ceremonial practices to access altered states of consciousness but so was sex.
This notion can be challenging to accept today. Sex is either viewed as only recreational (i.e. porn) or about reproduction.
Although science has not caught up yet, ancient wisdom suggests that the human body can generate the most potent psychedelic substance known to exist today - dimethyltryptamine (DMT). And that human sexual intimacy is the catalyst to access this innate potential.
As a Psychologist, my work is focused on educating individuals about the intersection of sexual wellness and mental health. On a personal note, I lived with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder for years. That is no longer the case due to what I believe was the natural activation of psychedelic levels of endogenous DMT through intimacy.
If I can experience this benefit, anyone can. We are all hardwired with this possibility.
However, we first need to become aware of this possibility and to learn how to access it.
